Athens, Georgia – Today’s weather is crisp, cold with bright sunny skies. For me, the perfect elements for an enjoyable winter day. No complaints here.

I pulled out a few records and a compact disc for housecleaning: the deep scrubbing edition. Jody Watley’s solo debut and Sylvester’s Step II are old faves. I thoroughly snatch dirt from cracks, crevices and baseboards with up-tempo dance music. Donna Summer’s double album, On the Radio, is another album that aids me during Saturday cleaning. The Young and Peterson album is romantic, straight ahead jazz. It swings and you don’t need to be to mathematical when listening to it. Matana Roberts’ Coin Coin: Chapter One was given to me as a Christmas present from MWF. Roberts, a multi-talented saxophonist, is doing that free jazz thing with a brain, heart, humor and soul. This one caught me by surprise as I’d never heard of her. Thoroughly enjoyable. New fan.

Jody Watley [1987/ MCA] – Jody Watley

The President Plays With Oscar Peterson [1952/ Verve] – Lester Young with The Oscar Peterson trio

Coin Coin: Chapter One – Gens de Couleur Libres [2011/ Constellation] [compact disc] – Matana Roberts

Step II [1978/ Fantasy] – Sylvester

‘Scuzz til Death’ screenprint [FriendPrices]

Found out about artist Don Picton’s work as I was scrolling through a buddy’s Instagram feed. This dude’s [Picton] aesthetic mirrors a style I highly dig, speaking to me with its’ straight-up mid-to-late 60s freak-monster-fuzz lean. Love. It. All.

‘Contrepoint’ [Because/ 2015] – Nicolas Godin [A.P.C.]

This album – brought to us by one half of French electronic duo, Air – is just gorgeous.

‘Halsey 70’ suede lace-up granny boots [Shoes of Prey]

Shoes of Prey. Wow-weeee. The boot [above] – as with all of their designs currently offered – you can custom design yourself, if you [like me] are into that kind of thing. Natch, it cost extra but if you have to ask, just skip it. Easy.

Athens, Georgia – I am currently doing whatever it takes to snatch myself out of a post-Christmas muck and mire. The time spent among humans/ people was fair to really good. Somewhere along the way, I contracted a yucky flu [which I am still working through]. Right now, hot green tea with profuse amounts of lemon and honey and the vinyl platters [below] for optimal wellness.

New York Is Now! – Vol. 1[Blue Note/ 1968] – Ornette Coleman

They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?: Musical Hightlights from the Original Soundtrack [ABC/ 1969] – Johnny Green and His Orchestra + various artists

Athens, Georgia – Working on wrapping the few gifts I am giving this Holiday season. I actually enjoy some parts of this time of the year. For me, the food and fireside chats are highlights.

I got rained on today. Thoroughly soaked. Never got that certain package to the post office. As it was last year, we saw heavy grey skies, dampness with very warm temperatures. This descriptive applies to some of the l.p.s I’ve pulled out today:

Complete Communion [1966/ Blue Note] – Don Cherry

The Magnolia Electric Co. [2005/ Secretly Canadian] – Songs: Ohia

Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Vol. 1 [2017/ Rise Above] – Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats

An Even Break [Never Give A Sucker] [1970/ BYG Actuel] – Sunny Murray

A Happening

008012025018056013024023Athens, Georgia – Having a gentle morning with jam on toast and black coffee. The skies are sunny and clear. And, my heart is full.

My outfit? The ‘Edie Sedgwick/Liza with an Z’ smash pack with oversized jet black, sequin t-shirt dress [Alessandro Michele knock-off? Probz.], coal black opaque tights, a pair of almond toe, black granny boots and sparse gems and sunshades complete today’s look. Add the 1940s vintage fur from Bergdorf-Goodman and it means business with a B.

To map out this morning’s soundscape – a few picks from my vinyl collection:

Ravedeath, 1972 [Kranky/ 2011] – Tim Hecker

Capricorn Princess [CTI/ 1976] – Esther Phillips

Beyond the Black Crack [Paradigm/ 1975] – Anal Magic & Rev. Dwight Frizzell

Athens, Georgia – Easy-breezy, all-black outfit, accented with gold chunky heeled boots. The outfit at its’ base level is comprised of a structured [meaning ‘boxy”] black minidress and black opaque tights. I’m all about comfort and simplicity. Posting a few shots [taken last week] when I was out of town for Thanksgiving festivities which illustrate “The Look”.

Oh! Here are a few hand-selected records I’m listening to today:

Spirit of Ecstasy/ The Way to Nepal [1980, 2012/ Caprice] – Åke Hodell

TP [1980/ Philadelphia International Records] – Teddy Pendergrass

More Than Little [1971/ Dot Records] – Little Peggy

Somewhere in The Carolinas – Here I am. Outdoors. In a vehicle. Standing in a field. Slouching on your couch. Flipping through vinyl. Donning a favorite casual outfit.

This look consists of a black round neck tee, black high waisted skinny jeans, a pair of Chelsea boots and a black oversized blazer. I wear a fat black digital wristwatch. The blazer’s lapel spruced up, sparingly, with simple decorative pins. It’s easy. Old school artsy: All-black [or, close to it], tailored and a touch slept in.

Hand-selected vinyl for solo listening:

Organ Favorites [1957/ Top Records] – Beverly Laine + Eddie Truman

Street Songs [1981/ Gordy] – Rick James

The Sound of Philadelphia ’73 [1973/ Philadelphia International] – Various Artists

Note: More platters were played on this day. Today’s main goal was to secure the Christmas tree and gussy it up.

Done.

Lastly…Would someone, give me a hand and please answer the red courtesy phone?!

Somewhere in The Carolinas – I recently scored this sharp leopard print velvet blazer shopping secondhand. It appears to be 1990s vintage. Fully lined with Mandarin collar and is in excellent condition. On this day, I wore it with a 1980s vintage grey silk long sleeve blouse, a pair of modern high waisted black cropped flares and tall brown leather Chelsea boots [note: These boots have been one of the best clothing trades I have ever made. Thanks, Minx Vintage – Athens, Georgia!]. This outfit really came to life with its’ accessories. A pair of clear gold fleck ‘Wave’ sunglasses and a color-blocked black and brown cross-body bag liven things up as do today’s vinyl picks:

The Coming World Government “666” [1970/ Triad Sound] – Evangelist Darrell Dunn

Thrash and Burn [2006/ Human Ear] – Ariel Pink

Muse [1979/ Island] – Grace Jones

Ralph Carmicheal Presents The Electric Symphony [The Moog Synthesizer] [1970/ Light] – Ralph Carmicheal and His Friends

Indian Giver [1969/ Buddha Records] – 1910 Fruitgum Co.
