*Gigantic photobook of David Cassidy  [The Official David Cassidy Fan Club, c. early 1970s]

Somewhere in southern California – Mother and I are having an early morning baking session before the summer heat turns itself all of the way up. I am very happy to have this shared moment with her. Later today, I plan on gifting one of my siblings with a vintage David Cassidy program/ photo book [*above] I found thrifting last summer. She loves 70s-era David. It’s so damn cute.

Today’s look is comprised of items I felt embodied a cool 1940s-style summer feeling with a fruity cocktail to match later. The tropical print shirtwaist red dress [Wen Grace] worn with a rope belt [Villven] match each other wonderfully. The red, yellow and green carved resin bangles, circular bamboo earrings, cherry red hexagon shaped sunglasses [Shauna] and beige leather low heeled open toe shoes [Shujiin] begged to be paired with this vintage styled thing I have going on. The leopard printed handbag and eggshell colored lace parasol are for walking later the afternoon sun.

I am glad to finally be back home.

No More Lies [1989/ Ruthless] – Michel’le
Keep On Movin’ [1988/ Virgin] – Soul II Soul

It’s Your Night [1983/ Qwest] – James Ingram
Somewhere in The Carolinas – It has been a month and a half since I began taking Chantix to stop smoking [The taste of cigarettes is now not pleasant to me if I picked one up] and six months or so since I quit drinking morning, noon and night [I will drink socially among friends and acquaintances, which I see rarely, which means I hardly drink anymore]. My nerves are jangled and I am chronically in a mood as my body is finding its’ normal again. There is far less nerve pain which strikes but just less often.

I present to you my Friday night stay-at-home music to kick off the afternoon and evening. James Ingram I nabbed for Yah Mo Be There [1983]. That song is so good it gives me phantom period cramps. Same goes for Michel’le’s helium-filled hit, No More Lies [1989] and Jazzy B’s Soul II Soul with Keep On Movin’ [1988]. I am working on getting my R & B/ Soul/ Hip-hop of the 70s through the ’90s pulled all the way together right now. It’s about time and the feeling is good.

Diamonds [1987/ A&M] – Herb Alpert [feat. Janet Jackson and Lisa Keith]

Walk With An Erection [1987/ Airwave] – The Swinging Erudites
Pleasure Victim [1982/ Geffen] – Berlin
Somewhere in The Carolinas – I stood near my stack of recently found vinyl finds, screaming inside of myself, “Yes, Lawd!!! This thrift shop finally came through!”. The three discs here are only a taste of what is to come. Diamonds by Herb Alpert is a track from his 1987 comeback R&B l.p. – Keep Your Eye On Me [A&M]. Alpert [who is the ‘A’ of A&M records] nabbed label star, Janet Jackson, to sing lead and have her famed production team of Jam and Lewis work their magic on this track.  It has long been a favorite dance cut of mine. Walk With An Erection [1987] by The Swinging Erudites I’d never heard of. It is a parody of The Bangles’ Walk Like An Egyptian, a song I never cared for so naturally I had to have this. Berlin’s Pleasure Victim l.p. was in heavy rotation during the golden years of K-ROQ. When “Sex [I’m A…] came on after ten p.m. [or was it midnight] due to racy content as deemed by the F.C.C. Pre-teen me had to turn the volume waaaaaay down to hear it. In 1982, Pleasure Victim I definitely could not have brought home. This album is a synth-pop/ New Wave classic.

“Beach Baby, Beach Baby/ Give me your hand/ From July til the end of September” – First Class [1974]

My mouth watering outside of Prosperity Kitchen & Pantry in Virginia Beach

In love with my realistic wraparound ‘bat’ ring [middle finger]

I thought this was a neat vintage sign – The Yorktown. The grounds were super maintained. I think we should stay here if there is a ‘next time’. Highly doubtful. [Yorktown, Virginia]

The Mister and Mrs in a hotel lobby [Yorktown, Virginia]
Black high waist bikini got some action.

We traveled up to Virginia last weekend where MWF is currently showing a piece at the Virginia Beach Arts Center [VBAC]. He got twisted booking accommodations and we ended up staying in Yorktown [which is fifty miles north of Virginia Beach]. I had no complaints as I was tagging along, acting as moral support, lounging near the hotel swimming pool. As for Yorktown, it is a colonial looking place. Its’ beach is a dirty bay with weekend warriors looking like busted cast members of any MTV reality show in the past thirty years, littering the place. Away from the “beach” was where it was at. Now, if you are in the Virginia Beach area, check out their art, their beaches and everything else. All smiles. No frowning.

Two of my three outfits I was able to capture. The first outfit is one I think suits me and wears with ease. I have most certainly gotten my money’s worth out of the black boxy shift dress [that can be worn two ways]. My one issue with this item is that it has no pockets. Paired with this look are a black oversized straw boater, black faux leather fisherman tote bag, assorted bracelets and bangles and a pair of black faux suede espadrilles. Rounding off this look, a pair of black bat wing sunglasses with silver accents.

The second outfit is clearly a knock-off of a designer whose name escapes me as I write this. The balloon-style blouse and crisp high waisted shorts are a dream. So perfect for spring and summer seasons. This piece and another matching piece I will be passing along with pleasure. As with the first outfit, the straw boater, stacked bracelets, bat wing sunglasses and black espadrilles played a part. My feet felt so good in these shoes. The black faux leather angular handbag with metal hardware has a strong No Wave vibe on it. Hearts flying from my peepers.

A bit of drama wrapped in casualwear? As I have made the case, it can be done.

What is this mess?! [i.e., bunched up garment on crappy mannequin]

Somewhere in The Carolinas – The mannequin needs a re-haul and the cocktail dress needs to be tended to.

Featured is a late 1960s Emilio Pucci cocktail dress I found thrifting many, many moons ago. I ran out of money when I spotted it, begging my sister to buy it for me. I have never worn it and it still has the thrift store tag on it. When found, it was in very good condition but since the multiple moves to various states I hang my head low in shame. Honestly, it needs a good cleaning and some of its’ snap fasteners can be tightened up. Paired with this groovy piece, pink wavy framed sunshades, a grey beaded necklace with oversized crystal, blond wood bracelets, black plastic hard shell lip-shaped clutch [all from various vendors at AliExpress] and a pair of black patent leather, pointed toe slingbacks [Qupid]. This outfit is pure sunshine and just a bit snobby. It’s love.

As for the mannequin, its’ legs [I feel] are ill-fitted. Perhaps there is a trick to get it to stand where the garments do not bunch up or slide off. I have one fully functional arm/hand to work with and no assistant, so I have got to be crafty. Add: After this shoot wrapped up, its’ [the mannequin] glass base shattered into raindrop-sized pieces.

Time to get even craftier.

Somewhere in The Carolinas – Nothing special is going on. In my personal life, I am trying to find options to manage chronic pain as well as line up medical appointments to make sure everything is in order. The shots above were taken of an outfit I wore last night and roughly two weeks ago. This is today’s feature.

The western-style sundress with Vargas-esque cowgirl print [Queen of Hollowdy] is a comfortable piece as it is made from a cotton blend. I initially ordered this item in red but the vendor ran out so I chose black.

The multi-colored woven tote bag and most of my assorted bangles were found thrifting. The two-tone sunglasses, leopard-print textured belt, red beaded necklace and sheer black scarf I nabbed from AliExpress. The gold and silver Polly of Hollywood-style mules complete The Look [Patricia Field for Payless ].

This outfit is fun, flirty and functional. It is a simple look if I want to go to market or go to a local bar. Hair and makeup can be clean and not so fussy. The same goes with those accessories. Dress it up or dress it down.

Athens, Georgia – Last Friday night in northeast Georgia. It was pouring rain on and off. Spent not enough days with a long-time best friend. Day one of Hot Corner was a wash. Plans were cancelled to meet with Instagram co-horts which I was bummed about but quickly got over. I found something for me to get into: Creature Comforts’ Athena Paradiso and a late-night punk showcase at Go bar. Left the joint well-before closing time [A first!] and was witness to a new favorite band, Rottweiler.

My outfit for the evening went a little something like this: tropical wide-leg jumpsuit [Vadim], gold circular earrings + gold ‘D’ bamboo necklace + assorted wood bangles [AliExpress], black sheer long scarf [worn as a belt] [thrift store find], black circular handbag with silver hardware [AliExpress] and brown leather and wood high heeled sandals [Envy]. Overall, a tribute to the 1940s donning nothing but modernwear. It may not have been fitting for a punk show but it did the job.

“Wigs & Jewerly”

All this spot needs to completely steal my heart would have been a very old Chinese buffet
Vintage metal playground equipment of C & H Laundry

Somewhere in The Carolinas – I have found it! I have found my new favorite vintage [slightly upgraded into the 70s] laundromat. Although, I am fortunate enough to have a washer and dryer in my home, this spot will be kept in mind if and when our home appliances start to fail us. I can only guess that C & H Laundry has been around since the 1960s. It’s just a guess. Whether C & H Laundry also sells ‘wigs and jewerly’ or serves as a functioning ‘copy service’ is just as thrilling to know. The entire concept appeases the tacky lower class lady in me. I hope a humpback washer woman is doling out coins then stepping to the back to prepare dim-sum and noodles in a rotting kitchen where the cooking oil hasn’t been recycled for the past fifty-two years. I can’t wait to investigate you more, C & H.
