Winston-Salem, North Carolina – I am back from Camel City and better than ever. We initially planned to catch Bill Frisell but things fell through. Joy Boy the Sweetest Wonder flawlessly picked up the sticks and pieced it together.

Underdog Records: Action packed, budget friendly pickings. Highly recommended that you drop by if you are new to the wide world of collecting vinyl or are hoping to re-boot a vinyl collection with a slim disposable income. I picked up close to fifteen pieces for under a dollar a piece. Sweet vintage decor that recall a lounge from the mid-1970s. Two levels to shop. Friendly, helpful staff.

McKay’s: Small vinyl selection. The majority of it is used. I picked up half a dozen pieces from their dollar bins. Per usual, I noticed choice 1970s and 80s era R & B, Disco, Post-Disco dumped in the one dollar/ fifty cent bins while shopping. In the end, it works for me [Someone who is a fan of these genres]. Staff was very helpful.

A/perture Cinema: Tiny art house in the middle of a bustling strip of the downtown area. Well appointed with a nice selection of classy snacks and booze. We took in mother(!) (2017) – the latest offering from Darren Aronofsky.

Crafted: The Art of the Taco: As a native Angeleno, I could get into all of nuances about “what makes a great authentic taco” – but, I’m not. Why? This place is fun tacos. A taco restaurant, plain and simple. I can dig it. Sweet modern industrial decor. Dog friendly patio. Helpful spaced-out server. This place gets busy. Parking spaces are limited. Recommendations: The braised beef ‘Mericanized tacos + [Damnit! I forgot the name of the cocktail I ordered. It was some tasty, summer-y  basil/Tito’s vodka concoction. Get that.] Request a side or two of hot sauce to wake it up.
